Privacy Policy
Last updated: July 2026
The short version
PCS Scout does not ask who you are, does not create accounts, does not show advertising, and does not run analytics or tracking scripts. There is no database of users because there are no users to store.
What we collect
Nothing personally identifiable. The pay grade, ZIP code, installation, and map locations you enter are used in your browser to calculate results and are never transmitted to us or stored on a server we control.
What stays on your device
The site stores a single value in your browser's local storage — a flag recording that you dismissed the welcome message — so it does not reappear on every visit. It contains no personal information and never leaves your device. Clearing your browser data removes it.
Third-party services
To draw the map and calculate drive times, your browser requests data directly from these providers, which necessarily receive your IP address and the map coordinates involved, subject to their own privacy policies:
- OpenFreeMap and OpenStreetMap — map tiles
- Esri — satellite imagery (only if you switch to satellite view)
- Project OSRM and Valhalla (FOSSGIS) — routes and drive-time zones
- TomTom — rush-hour traffic estimates
BAH rates, school listings, installation locations, and ZIP data are bundled with the site itself and require no external requests.
Links to listing sites
Links to Zillow, Apartments.com, and MilitaryByOwner open those sites in a new tab. PCS Scout receives no commission and shares no information with them; once you arrive, their privacy policies apply.
Hosting
The site is served as static files by GitHub Pages, which may keep standard web server logs. PCS Scout does not operate an application server or database.
Children
PCS Scout is a general-audience housing tool and does not knowingly collect information from anyone, including children.
Changes
If this policy changes, the revised date above will be updated. The site's full source code is public, so any change is visible in its history.
